The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was established in 1909 with active support from Jamsetji Tata and H.H. Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore. It is India's premier institution for advanced scientific and technological research and education. Located in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, IISc has consistently been ranked as the top research university in India.
The Institute has over 5000 students, faculty, and staff working across more than 100 departments and centers. Our mission is to conduct high-quality research, provide world-class education, and foster innovation that addresses global challenges.
IISc is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach, state-of-the-art facilities, and collaborative environment. The Institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various fields including Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Electrical Sciences, Mechanical Sciences, and Interdisciplinary Research. Admissions are highly competitive, with students selected from across India and the world.

Academic Programs
IISc offers a range of degree programs designed to cultivate scientific leaders. Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on research, critical thinking, and ethical responsibility.
Undergraduate (B.Sc. Research)
A four-year program for students after higher secondary education. Majors include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, and Earth & Environmental Science. Admission through IISER Aptitude Test and KVPY fellowship.
Students engage in research from the first year, with access to mentorship and internships. The program includes a mandatory thesis project in the final year.
Postgraduate (M.Tech, M.Des, M.Mgt)
Two-year master's programs in engineering, design, and management. Specializations include Aerospace Engineering, Computational Data Science, and Product Design.
Admission through GATE and CEED scores. Courses combine advanced theory with industry projects. Many students receive placements with average packages of ₹25 lakhs per annum.
Doctoral (Ph.D.)
Ph.D. programs across all departments, typically lasting 4-6 years. Students work on original research under faculty guidance, with full financial support.
Admission through written tests and interviews. Graduates pursue careers in academia, R&D, and entrepreneurship. IISc awards over 300 Ph.D.s annually.

Applications open in January each year. We offer merit-based scholarships such as the IISc Merit Fellowship and need-based aid through the Tata Trust. International students can apply via the Study in India portal.
